We must next consider the general quality of the soul after leaving the body, and the punishment inflicted on it by material fire. Under this head there are three points of inquiry:

A1 Whether the sensitive powers remain in the separated soul?

A2 Whether the acts of the aforesaid powers remain in the soul?

A3 Whether the separated soul can suffer from a material fire?
